Shotglow Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 16, 2026

The short version

Your screenshots never leave your device. Shotglow has no servers for your images, no account, and no analytics of your browsing or content. The only thing the extension ever sends anywhere is an anonymous random install ID, used to count installs and to guarantee early users free lifetime access to Pro features.

What Shotglow processes, and where

Screenshots. Captured, edited, and exported entirely on your device. Images are held in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) only long enough to pass them from the capture step to the editor tab, then deleted. Exported images go only where you send them: your clipboard or your Downloads folder.

Settings. Your preferences (keyboard shortcuts, style defaults) are stored locally via Chrome's storage API on your device.

Usage counters. A local count of your exports is kept on your device solely to decide when to show a one-time review prompt. It is never transmitted.

Install ID. When you install Shotglow, the extension generates a random identifier (a UUID) on your device. This ID is not derived from and cannot be linked to you, your Google account, your hardware, or your browsing. It is sent to our server (a Cloudflare Worker) in exactly three situations:

  • On install, so we can count installs and record the install date. Early installs receive Pro features free for life, and the install date is how we honor that promise.
  • Periodic status check: the extension occasionally asks our server whether paid features are enabled and whether your install qualifies for free lifetime access. Only the install ID is sent.
  • On uninstall: Chrome opens our feedback page with the install ID so we can mark the install as removed in our counts.

That's the complete list. No page URLs, no image data, no personal information, no browsing history. Ever.

What Shotglow does NOT do

  • No uploads of images: your screenshots are never sent to any server
  • No account or sign-in
  • No analytics or tracking SDKs
  • No reading of page content: the extension only captures the pixels you see, when you ask it to
  • No sale or sharing of any data with anyone

Network connections

Shotglow connects only to our own licensing server (shotglow-licensing.sanitizemeta.workers.dev), and only for the three requests described above plus, if you purchase Pro, validating your license key. None of these requests ever include your images, page content, or browsing data.

Data retention & deletion

The server stores only the random install ID, its install date, and (for Pro purchases) the license record. Uninstalling the extension marks the ID as uninstalled. To have your install ID or license record deleted entirely, email us with your license key or install ID (shown on the settings page) and we will remove it.

Permissions explained

  • activeTab: capture the visible tab when you click or press the shortcut; no background page access
  • scripting: show the drag-to-select overlay when you choose "Select region"
  • downloads: save your exported image to your Downloads folder
  • storage: keep your settings on your device
